Derek ''the dons'' Blog

Monday 12th May and after almost missing my flight due to an accident on the M25 I am on my way to visit Lac Royale in France for the second time and in just over an hour I will be at Limoges airport just thirty minutes from the Lake. The Ryanair flight lands on time and its just minutes before I clear customs and met by Wayne one of the crew from Lac Royale. We take the Lac Royale shuttle bus the short drive to the lake and arrive to be greeted by Barry (shaggy) and Karen and some very hot weather. This time I am not going to fish my swim ‘’the dons on ‘’ number 2 but swim number 1 The CARPology Swim. Monday night after a nice curry all we get is a fantastic storm and no fish…………………lets see what Tuesday brings.

Tuesday 13th May start the day with a full English breakfast, high pressure and hot weather sees the fish cruising around but not feeding. The lake looks stunning but the fish do not want to come to the dons diner.

Wednesday 14th May and it looks like we can get it on today. The pressure and the temperature have dropped and wind is pushing into my swim. After dinner I take two fish in no time at all a 29lb 10oz fully scaled and 34lb 8oz Mirror on the Buffet Rig (The new Mainline Cheese and good old Pineapple).

Thursday 15th May and Barry wakes me at 6.55am to tell me that the lad fishing my swim ( number2 the dons on) just banked a PB 48lb 4oz ………….come on.

I decide to take dinner in my swim as Dons diner is now bubbling like a Jacuzzi two wicked pizzas and I am rewarded with a new PB at 46lb 14oz at 6.30pm they will not leave the Buffet alone…………….6.50pm and the buffet is still open this time a 34lb 10oz linear …………it just gets better.

Friday 16th May and I start the day with a 26lb mirror, breakfast in my swim and I must be packed up by ten for the journey home I don’t want to go. At 9.45 wanger on the banger, the fish doing its all to make the snag. after a 15 minute battle another 40 at 46.06 was in the net come on……….

All the fish were caught fishing to the snags on the far margin fishing with barbed size 6 Mv2 hooks,4oz inline leads and 18lb mainline reels locked up to the butt to try and stop the fish making the snags

In those famous words of Arnie Ill be baaaaccckkk!!!!!!
